Bounce Rate

The share of visits that end after one page, with no further action.

Bounce rate = one-page visits ÷ all visits × 100

Why it matters

A high bounce rate can mean a page is slow, confusing or not what people expected.

How to use it

  • Read it together with page speed.
  • Compare by traffic source.
  • Check the page really is meant to lead somewhere else.

Example

If 300 of 1,000 visits end on one page, the bounce rate is 30%.

Watch out

A high bounce rate is not always bad. People may get their answer from one page and leave happy.
